Who’s going to stop me?

A few months ago, I came across a post on Forbes.com with the Top 100 Inspirational Quotes. I’m usually skeptical of such claims, having been a quote hoarder all my life. But this list is compiled of one great nugget after another.

Including this one by Ayn Rand:

The question isn’t who is going to let me; it’s who is going to stop me.

I’ve always hesitated to post it because of the political hub-bub that her name (and ideas) are associated with from the past presidential election. But I couldn’t hold out any longer. It kind of just spoke to me today.

There is just something so necessary about this quote. That it’s not about what others think, or what they want you to do. It’s about your passions, your ambition, and your dedication to whatever it is that tickles your fancy. So, if you want to make a living taking pictures of animals…who’s going to stop you? If you want to become a national best seller in the Young Adult arena…who’s going to stop you? And if you want to become a raw vegan chef…who’s going to stop you?

And if you really listen closely to the reasons or excuses that come up, chances are…it’s YOU standing in your way.

So. Stop waiting for permission, and start doing the things you want to do.

Let's stay connected!

  1. Reply I read The Fountainhead in high school and I think a lot of people really misunderstand it as a work of art. If you separate the politics of it and just read it for what it is, it's powerful in its own right. But I guess not many people can do that! I do like that quote though.
    1. Reply Kim - Good to know. Glad there is more to it than what has been getting quoted and sensationalized.
